Admission to studies

Admission to the Doctoral Program:

1. Candidates apply for the doctoral program in Education Science through open admission. Admission is open for the applicants holding a Master’s or an equivalent degree.
2. State-funded places for the doctoral program in Education Science are allocated among the institutions by the Ministry of Education and Science.
3. The call for dissertation topics and advisors is announced at least one month prior to the start of the admissions process. The topics have to be consistent with the research areas of the Doctoral program institutions. The terms and conditions are approved by the Committee.
4. If the topic or advisor is proposed by a Non-doctoral program institution, this institution has to submit an official confirmation of funding for the doctoral studies.
5. The call for the topics and advisors is organized by the Science Office of the administering university and administered by the Committee. The list of selected dissertation topics and advisors is formalized by the Committee in the form of a protocol signed by the Committee Chair and the secretary of the meeting. The protocol is submitted by the Committee to the Science Office of the administering university which is responsible for announcing the list of selected dissertation topics on the websites of the Doctoral studies institutions.
6. Based on the proposal of the Committee, the Doctoral studies institutions announce the terms and conditions of open admission to the doctoral program. The call for proposals is administered individually for each dissertation topic.
7. The applicant can submit a written request addressed to the Head of the Doctoral studies institution for the permission to participate in open admission for doctoral studies to the Science Office of each Doctoral studies institution. In addition to the request/application form stating the concentration of the doctoral studies, the form of studies and desirable dissertation topics in order of priority (not more than two topics), the following documents must be submitted:
7.1. Master’s or an equivalent degree diploma and its supplement (originals and copies; original documents are immediately returned to the applicant); certificate from the Centre for Quality Assessment of Higher Education regarding the recognition of higher education qualification from abroad;
7.2. References from two researchers specializing in Education Science;
7.3. Resume;
7.4. The list of scientific/research works and printed works themselves;
7.5. Other documents listed in the Conditions for Admission to the Doctoral Studies.
8. The competition for admission to the doctoral studies takes place once per year. The competition is organized by the Science Office of the administering university and administered by the Committee. The applications for different topics in Education Science to the Doctoral studies institutions are processed separately. All applicants must attend interviews with the Committee members.
9. The Heads of the Doctoral studies institutions or other authorized persons sign the approved two-party agreements with the individuals admitted to the full-time or part-time doctoral studies in Education Science.
10. Selection criteria for the applicants to the doctoral studies are the following:
10.1. Publications assessed in accordance with the assessment method for scientific works approved by the order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania;
10.2. Gross point average of the study subjects and final project for the applicant’s Master’s degree studies or single-cycle degree studies;
10.3. Foreign language skills;
10.4. Consistency of the scientific qualification, scientific/research publications, and scientific/research experience with each of the selected dissertation topics;
10.5. The research project;
10.6. Interview targeted at assessing motivation of the applicant;
10.7. Other criteria approved by the Committee.
11. The selection criteria, coefficients of their weight, and calculation of the admission score is approved in the Committee annually in the form of a protocol.
12. In accordance with the selection criteria, the Committee assesses all applicants by assigning the scores and based on these scores prepares priority lists for different topics of the Doctoral studies institutions. These lists of applicants and decisions regarding successful admission or rejection of admission are formalized by the Committee in the form of a protocol. The protocol is signed by the Committee Chair and the secretary of the meeting. The protocol is submitted by the Committee to the Science Office of the administering university.
